Gateway Award

P7250068The Gateway Award is a multi-activity awards programme for people with a learning disability. It is a bit like the Duke of Edinburgh Award with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

The Gateway Award empowers people to experience new things, gain confidence, increase independence, meet new people, have fun and get fit.

Activities this year have included:

  • Cooking
  • Arts and Crafts such as sewing and batik
  • Sports such as basketball, tennis, trampolining
  • Money skills and lifestyle courses
  • Dance
  • DIY
  • Volunteering at Birkenhead Park, Vale park and the Walled Gardens

There are still a couple of places available for the new programme that started in September 2018. Each person attends for one day a week (usually funded via a direct payment or social care funding) to complete their award. It’s a great way to get out and about more if you are spending a lot of time at home or it can compliment other things you may be doing like going to college, going out with a PA or attending a Day Centre. Please see attached leaflet for more information or call Lizzie.

Gateway Award with Julie

Not everyone gets social care funding or has the time to access the programme for a full day each week.  If this is you then you may want to do the Gateway Award independently with the support of our coordinator Julie. Read this leaflet (easy read Gateway leaflet) to find out more. If you are interested, get in touch with Lizzie Carline or Julie Crossley on 0151 666 1829 to make an appointment to come in and see us.
